HowTo: Contribute articles on openArchitectureWare.org

Publishing articles on openArchitectureWare.org is really simple, but some rules need to be followed. Please read this article and pay attention to the instructions mentioned here. This will help to ensure high quality and uniformness of this site.

  1. Meaningful article title
The first rule should be obvious: The article title should make clear what the article is all about. Don't spare on words, e.g. "openArchitectureWare tutorial" could be any type of tutorial. Sometimes it is useful to place a prefix like "HowTo:" or "FAQ:" within the title. By now the set of prefixes to use are not defined, but we work on that.
  2. Clear, but short introduction text
Each article consists of two parts: an introduction text and a body text. The introduction text has to make it definetely clear, what the reader has to expect when reading the article. Each article has a specific target group that it addresses. Point out for whom your article is of interest. And for those people that should read your article try to awake their interest in reading it.
Note that your introduction text will be emailed in the digest to each registered user that has the right to read your article.
  3. Article Id with readable content
Each article has a unique id. By default article id's are generated when beginning a new article. Important: Your article should be found by search engines! The article id is part of your article's url. Search engines rate your article higher when the url contains keywords that people search for. Article id's must not contain whitespace or other special characters, use underscores instead of them. Create id's like "howto_visio_integration". In this case it is likely that persons searching for "Visio integration" will find your article. Make sure that those keywords are also mentioned in your introduction text!
  4. Control access rights
Take a look at the access rights configured for your article. Each article is only visible and readable by authorized readership. By default articles are only readable by owner and group. Mostly articles should be readable by anyone, so check if "Anonymous" has read permission (in this case also members of course). Often group members should be able to modify your article, especially to correct errors. Check the group the article is assigned to, perhaps the default group is not the one you intend the article to able to modify your article. Mostly the groups "oaw-dev" (all registered openArchitectureWare developers) or "logged-in users" (anyone registered on openArchiectureWare.org) are the right ones.
Especially pay attention to the right access rights if your article is not intended to be readable by too much persons. Note that all allowed users will be informed about your article by email.
